Jiayu

Glorious History

Zhang Xingduo, founder of Jiayu Company (nicknamed Zhang Baiwan), was born in 1927. Around 1950, he established a joint-stock limited company at the northeast corner of the intersection of Yangjie Street and Fufang Road in Tengxian County, named 'Tengxian Yukang General Merchandise Co., Ltd.'
In 1979, he opened the city's first individual pastry workshop and general merchandise and seafood store—Jiayu North-South General Merchandise and Seafood Store—in Xinghuacun, Tengzhou City. To help others prosper, he pioneered a system where goods were distributed among people to sell, with payment made after sales. This approach involved relatives and friends, eventually leading to over a hundred businesses and the formation of a large-scale market, the well-known Tengzhou General Merchandise and Seafood Market. This was widely reported in publications such as China Business News, China Materials News, Da Zhong Daily, and Zaoyang Daily, hailing Jiayu Company as a 'leader' and a 'single company driving a large market'.
In 1995, the market relocated to Huafu Trade City, and Jiayu Company led the move, taking on the responsibility of developing and expanding the market. The number of businesses grew to over 500.
In 2004, adhering to the principle of pioneering development, Tengzhou Jiayu Trade Co., Ltd. constructed Jiayu Trade City on Datong North Road, further expanding the market scale. The market layout included storefront operations, wholesale warehousing, logistics distribution chains, fire sprinkler systems, integrated service facilities, and a comprehensive service environment. This formed the Tengzhou General Merchandise and Condiment Wholesale Market. Jiayu Trade City featured dedicated areas for Fujian, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Northeast China, Shandong, and Southeast Asian specialties, as well as streets specializing in mushrooms and wood ear fungus, condiments and herbs, and seafood. With an annual turnover of over 1 billion yuan, it played a positive leading role in the city's market cluster development. Market sales reached across China and over 10 countries and regions, including the United States, Eastern Europe, and South Korea.
By 2010, the trade city had nearly 2,000 businesses, and the company launched the third phase of the Jiayu Trade City expansion project. In 2013, the third phase of the Jiayu International Trade City expansion was underway, with a planned construction area of approximately 280 mu (about 18.7 hectares) and a total building area of approximately 400,000 square meters. This included approximately 70,000 square meters of street-front commercial buildings, 200,000 square meters of market space, and 150,000 square meters of business apartments and residential units. An e-commerce zone was also built on the second floor of the parking lot, accommodating over 100 e-commerce businesses. Each business was provided with separate office, packaging, and processing areas. Leveraging the abundant and affordable goods in the general merchandise and seafood market, and the convenient access to logistics and express delivery services, these e-commerce businesses expanded their reach nationwide.
Jiayu Company has always upheld the business philosophy of 'Sincerely invite customers from all over the world, reputation comes from trust,' continuously expanding and strengthening the enterprise. Jiayu Trade City has developed into a privately-owned enterprise integrating industry, commerce, e-commerce, logistics services, and market operations. It boasts six large parking lots, four 10,000-ton cold storage facilities, a nationwide distribution center, a modern fire alarm and monitoring system, 24-hour security patrols, and a first-class property management team. It also offers medical, business, repair, and warehousing services.
In 2015, Jiayu Company planned to launch the fourth phase of expansion, listed as a key project by the municipal party committee and government. The plan included an additional 80 mu of land, 300,000 square meters of new construction, and a planned investment of 1.2 billion RMB.
Currently, Jiayu Company's focus is on strengthening scientific management, providing humane services, improving market supporting facilities, investing 30 million yuan to build a 10,000-square-meter e-commerce hall (the largest in southern Luan), investing 200 million yuan to build twin 10,000-ton cold storage facilities (designated as a national cold chain logistics enterprise), and attracting businesses from across the country to leverage nationwide logistics services. The aim is to develop into the largest and best multi-functional wholesale market in northern China, with the most comprehensive range of products, serving as a window and brand for Tengzhou's investment attraction, and making positive contributions to the economic and social development of Tengzhou.
After achieving success, Jiayu Company has not forgotten to give back to society. In recent years, it has donated hundreds of thousands of yuan to various social welfare causes, including the establishment of Tengzhou Mozi Middle School, the Xiaqing River governance project, poverty alleviation, bridge and road construction, school construction, disaster relief, and water supply projects. The company established the city's first private enterprise party branch, with over ten party members, and Zhang Zhonghui serves as the party secretary. General Manager Zhang Min has been elected as a deputy to the Shandong Provincial People's Congress and vice president of the Zaoyang Chamber of Commerce.
