Product Description
Morels (Morchella esculenta (L.) Pers.) are fungi belonging to the genus Morchella in the family Morchellaceae. The cap is nearly spherical, ovate to elliptical, up to 10 cm high, with a blunt apex, and a surface with pits resembling a sheep's stomach. The pits are irregularly eggshell to pale yellowish brown, with lighter-colored ridges. The stipe is nearly cylindrical, off-white, hollow, and cylindrical. The spores are long elliptical, colorless. The terminal ends of the paraphyses are swollen. The morel is light and brittle in texture.
Morels are distributed worldwide, with wider distribution in France, Germany, the United States, India, and China. They are also found in smaller quantities in Russia, Sweden, Mexico, Spain, Czechoslovakia, and parts of Pakistan. In China, morels are extremely widespread, ranging from the three northeastern provinces in the north to Guangdong, Fujian, and Taiwan in the south, to Shandong in the east, and to Xinjiang, Tibet, Ningxia, and Guizhou in the west, covering a total of 28 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions. Morels mostly grow on the humus layer in broad-leaved forests or mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forests. They primarily grow in sandy loam rich in humus or in brown earth and brown soil. Morels are more likely to appear in large numbers on land after a fire.
Morels are both edible and medicinal fungi. With their unique aroma and rich nutrition, containing various amino acids and organic germanium needed by the human body, they have long been considered a high-grade nutritional supplement in countries such as Europe and the United States.
